There is big news for crores of UPI users making digital payments. Important changes in the rules of UPI transactions have come into effect from June 1, 2026. Now before any UPI payment the real name information recorded in the receiver’s bank account will be visible. The purpose of this new rule is to prevent cases of online fraud and fake QR codes.
Real name will be visible before payment
Under this new rule implemented by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), when a person scans the QR code or makes a payment on the UPI ID, he will see the name of the same person or institution which is officially registered in the bank account. This will make it easier for the person making the payment to ensure that the money is going to the correct account.
Digital fraud will be banned
In recent years, cases of online fraud through fake QR codes and wrong names have increased. Many times the name of the shop was something else while the payment went into someone else’s account. After the implementation of the new rule, incidents of such fraud are expected to reduce.
Traders will be affected
This change will also affect traders and shopkeepers. Now if the name of the shop or establishment and the name of the bank account are different, then confusion may arise in the minds of customers. In such a situation, many customers may avoid making payment.
What will traders have to do?
According to experts, traders should open a bank account as per their GST registration and business name. Also, it would be better to use the QR code linked to the same account. This will increase customer confidence and make the payment process more transparent.
conclusion
This new UPI rule, which came into effect from June 1, 2026, is being considered a big step towards making the digital payment system more secure, transparent and reliable. This will prevent online fraud and consumers will get a secure payment experience.
